Profile of the Liechtenstein national football team history LFV Liechtensteiner FussballVerband is the Liechtenstein football association was founded on 1934 and represents governing body for football in Liechtenstein in a international competition and is controlled by LFV. Became a member of UEFA Affiliation in 1974 and FIFA Affiliation in 1974.
The team's first match was an unofficial match against Malta in Seoul, a 1–1 draw in 1981. Their first official match came two years later in a 1-0 defeat by Switzerland in Balzers on 9 March 1982. It was another 12 years before their competitive bow in EURO '96 qualifying: a 4-1 loss to Northern Ireland on 20 April 1994. Liechtenstein's largest win, a 4–0 win over Luxembourg in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier on 13 October 2004, was both its first away win ever and its first win in any World Cup qualifier.

Liechtenstein suffered its biggest ever loss in 1996, during qualification for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, with an 11–1 defeat of the Republic of Macedonia. Liechtenstein have featured in every subsequent qualification tournament: 1998 FIFA World Cup, UEFA EURO 2000, 2002 World Cup, UEFA EURO 2004, 2006 World Cup, UEFA EURO 2008 and 2010 World Cup.
