Macedonian football association was founded on 1948 and represents governing body for football in Macedonia in a international competition and is controlled by football federation of Macedonia.
The Macedonian Football Association was created in August 1948. This body became a member of the larger Yugoslavian Football Association until 1991, at which point, following independence, the Football Federation of FYROM (FSM) was born. In 1994 further strides were taken to incorporate FYROM into the global football family, with the award of FIFA and UEFA membership. In addition, the country joined the Balkan Football Federation.

After the dissolution of Yugoslavia, the Football federation of Macedonia joined a member of UEFA Affiliation in 1994 and FIFA Affiliation in 1994. The national team's play most of their home matches at the Philip II Arena in Skopje. On 12 August 2009, as part of the 100-year anniversary of football in Macedonia, the national team played a friendly match against the current European champions Spain.
